St Cuthbert's Garden Village Carlisle
A new Carlisle Southern Link Road would provide a vital east-west connection for the City and would support the delivery of St Cuthbert's Garden Village.
Work commenced on the Carlisle Southern Link Road in June 2023. The project is anticipated to take two years to complete and is scheduled to open in 2025.
The Carlisle Southern Link Road is essential for unlocking the full potential of St Cuthbert's Garden Village. The new road will connect Junction 42 of the M6 to the A595 at Peter Lane.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities have confirmed they will provide £212m funding for the new road. This is in addition to the combined contributions from Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council (now Cumberland Council) of £13.8m which will be sourced from developer contributions as homes are built.
A planning application for the road was approved by Cumbria County Council in October 2020.. The planning application can be viewed online at planning.cumbria.gov.uk under Planning Application Reference: 1/19/9012.
